A travel operator ready to go digital

Taksverden is a Norwegian travel operator specialising in guided international tours across five continents. With a growing catalogue of curated journeys and an expanding customer base, they needed a digital platform that could match the quality, depth, and sense of discovery that define the experiences they offer.

No branding, no platform

Taksverden had no professional branding, no logo, and no meaningful digital platform to build on. They had explored off-the-shelf solutions such as WordPress, but quickly encountered the limits: it could not support the complexity of multi-day itineraries, destination hierarchies, or the level of customisation the business required.

They needed a long-term partner capable of creating something tailored, credible, and built to mature with the business over time. Flyingcode was the right fit. We have developed the platform incrementally, introducing new features and modules as the company evolves, always using modern technology to give Taksverden a distinct competitive advantage.

The vision

The vision was clear: create a platform where prospective travellers could explore destinations through an interactive world map, browse detailed day-by-day itineraries, and submit booking enquiries, all within a digital experience that reflected the premium character of the tours themselves.

Beyond the public-facing site, Taksverden also needed a robust admin dashboard that would allow their team to manage every aspect of the business without touching code, from creating new tours and managing hotel partnerships to sending newsletters and generating beautifully branded PDF tour programmes.

Full branding included

The scope extended well beyond development. We also delivered the full brand identity for Taksverden, including logo design, colour palette, typography, and overall visual direction. The branding system was designed to evoke premium travel and global discovery, carrying consistently from the website to PDF tour programmes, newsletters, and social media assets.

The technical challenge was equally substantial: build a full-stack platform capable of handling complex, hierarchical data, including continents, countries, destinations, tours, and itineraries, while keeping the content management experience intuitive enough for a small team to run with confidence.

Built on a modern full-stack foundation

We built the platform on a modern React framework with server-side rendering for fast initial page loads and client components for rich interactivity. The entire codebase is fully typed, ensuring reliability, clarity, and long-term maintainability as the platform continues to evolve.

Data architecture

The data layer models 13 interconnected collections, spanning tours and itineraries, countries, hotels, newsletter subscribers, and site settings. The schema supports the hierarchical nature of travel data: continents contain countries, countries contain destinations, and tours reference all three alongside detailed day-by-day itinerary entries.

Media & file management

For media management, we integrated cloud storage with secure upload handling. The admin dashboard includes a full media browser with folder navigation, image previews, and usage tracking to identify orphaned files, giving the team complete control over a visually rich and carefully managed asset library.

AI-powered content generation

One of the platform's more forward-looking features is its AI-powered content generation system. We built dedicated endpoints that use large language models to generate comprehensive country travel guides, SEO metadata, marketing taglines, image captions, and introductory PDF copy, dramatically reducing the time required to populate new destination content without compromising richness or quality.

Frontend & design system

The frontend uses a utility-first CSS framework paired with accessible component primitives and smooth animations, delivering a polished, responsive experience that feels elevated on every device. A rich text editor powers content editing throughout the admin dashboard.

Automated PDF generation

PDF tour programmes are rendered server-side, complete with QR codes linking back to the live tour page. Incremental page regeneration ensures that the public site remains fast while still reflecting content changes within minutes.

A platform that puts discovery first

The public site opens with an interactive world map where visitors can explore continents, countries, and individual destinations. Each country page includes AI-generated travel guides covering practical details such as visa requirements, currency, local languages, weather patterns, health and safety guidance, and cultural etiquette, presented in a way that feels both useful and refined.

Rich tour experiences

Tour detail pages present rich, day-by-day itineraries with activity types ranging from departures and excursions to wellness treatments and optional add-ons with individual pricing. Each day links to accommodation details, includes weather data, and features high-quality imagery with custom cropping tailored to different contexts and touchpoints.

A dashboard for everything

Behind the scenes, the admin dashboard spans more than 15 modules organised across content, marketing, and system sections. Tour management alone includes an itinerary builder with modal interfaces for each day, flexible pricing structures for standard and seasonal rates, inclusion and exclusion lists, flight route tracking, and tour guide assignment.

Branded PDF programs

PDF tour programmes are generated server-side with Taksverden's branding applied throughout, including logo, colours, and typography that match the visual identity we created. The system renders complete itineraries with embedded images, QR codes, and Norwegian date formatting into polished documents the team can share with prospective travellers or present in person.
